Jeffie vs. Faulkner
As
Jeffie enters Faulkner's gym, his confident canter gives away his
intentions. Staring straight at the Leader, Jeffie calls out,
"Faulkner, you must know what I'm here for! I'm Jeffie and I challenge
you to a battle, your wager being the Zephyr Badge."
|
Faulkner: Right-o Jeffie. This'll be a nice and simple one on one. Tell you what. You can send out first.
~~~ And you know all about the half and half stuff. |
Alright, I'll start with Chinchou!
|
Faulkner:
Ah, a Chinchou. I hope you don't think that you can defeat all flying
types with electricity. There are many dual types in the world of
flight. Go, Tropius! (Level 12, Male)
Chinchou - 32/32 Tropius - 37/37 |
Chinchou,
let's start it off with Supersonic. We'll fire it up after we see what
he's capable of. Give him a Bubble too. Undoubtedly, it won't do much,
but it should help get some bearings. You don't really have any
distinct advantage, so we'll have to improvise.
|
Chinchou
lets loose a Supersonic as Tropius flaps its wings hard. The Gust
attack rips apart the air waves used for the Supersonic and slams into
Chinchou for moderate damage. Chinchou bounces up and down and hits
Tropius with a Bubble attack. Tropius recoils and starts flapping its
wings, flying high up into the air.
Chinchou - 27/32 Tropius - 35/37 |
... wow. This is gonna take some doing...
Chnchou, this looks to me like a prep for a Fly attack. So you'll have to dodge. Be crazy fast!! Along with your dodge, try this: fill the room with Supersonic, and as he swoops down, move over here to these blue tiles. That might help hide you. After Tropius is down, go crazy with Thunder Wave. If you've paralyzed him with that, give him some more bubbles, but make sure to watch out for any attacks, and try your best to dodge them. |
Where the fun if it doesn't take some doing?
~~~ Chinchou flops around on the ground like fish out of water as Tropius come hurtlingdown out of the sky. Chinchou's Supersonic attacktakes effect just before one of Tropius's vines slam into it. Luckily, in Tropius's confused state, it was unable to do maximum damage. Stammering around drunkenly, Tropius shakes its head, loosing a terrific Razor Leaf attack that badly cuts up Chinchou. Tropius also managed to hit itself, but for almost no damage. Chinchou - 19/32 Tropius - 31/37 (confused) |
Gah! This is ridiculous!!
Chinchou, I guess you're at a bit larger disadvantage than I had anticipated... but I've got an extra backup plan. Here, learn Thunderbolt! ((-1x TM Thunderbolt)) That move won't be super effective, but it'll be much better than Bubble. Here's a combo to use: Bubble the heck out of 'im. Get him nice and wet, then try that new Thunderbolt. Don't worry about getting yourself with it either, your ability takes care of it. Be careful about it, too, you've only got slightly more than half of your health left. We'll see how that works out. |
Tropius
stomps the ground hard as Chinchou takes the TM, and charges speedily
by flapping its wings and running forward. Chinchou manages to roll out
of the way of th vines flailing off of Tropius and saturates it with
Bubble. Tropius turns and jumps up into the air, flapping its wings and
taking off into the air. Chinchou blasts it with Thunderbolt right on
the wings, causing it to come crashing down. Unfortunately for you, it
lands on Chinchou, doing damage.
Chinchou - 12/32 Tropius - 23/37 (confused) |
Sweet ****!
OK, now do a similar move, but then as you go to hit Trop'ums, let off another Thunderbolt in your own direction. That'll help you gain some HP. Also, Try one of these: Get one spot on the ground really wet, then drop a little electric charge in it so it fizzles and glows. Then make your little light thngies glow too. The puddle may help as a distraction. |
Tropius
shakes its head vigorously, snapping itself out of confusion. Tropius
then calls its name out loudly and charges towards Chinchou straight
through its Thunderbolt attack. Tropius then rams Chinchou with its
full body weight, sending it flying back into the wall. Chinchou lets
loose with Thunderbolt as Tropius uses Razor Leaf. The attacks collide,
and the electricity charges the leaves just before they slam into
Chinchou, considerably lessening the damage done.
Chinchou - 4/32 Tropius - 18/37 |
Ok,
you're going a bit low. Let's take a minute to work on your health a
bit. Tropius seems to be a bit faster than you, so you may have a
little difficulty dodging all of his moves, but give it your best shot.
If he's getting too close, use supesonic to distract his focus,
otherwise, use Thunderbolt on yourself over and over. That way, you
might be able finish this.
|
Tropius
stimps the ground and flaps its wings hard, using the extra speed to
rocket towards Chinchou. Chinchou barely manages to avoid Tropius's
flailing vines, and nails it in the back with Supersonic. Tropius
stumbles around confusedly, trying to attack Chinchou but getting
nowhere close. Chinchou blasts itself with Thunderbolt over and over
again, cranking up its HP. However, Chinchou does it for so long that
Tropius is able to snap out of its confusion and nail Chinchou with
Razor Leaf.
Chinchou - 13/32 Tropius - 16/37 |
Alright Chinchou, good work. This battle seems to be nearing its end, but don't give up! Let's make a strong finish!
Start by using Thunderbolt to regain a little health, but keep alert, and make sure you try to dodge or make any attacks miss. Use Supersonic or Thunder Wave to help with that. When you feel good about your constitution, find a good opening and let loose a volley of Bubbles, enough to obscure his view of you. That'll be what Tropius sees coming, but then run to the side and give him a nice big Thunderbolt! Follow up with a bonus Thunderbolt on yourself, and stay alert. |
Listen! (hit C^)
Chinchou
tries to use Thunderbolt, but Tropius suddenly gets a massive speed
boost as it spits the pit of a berry onto the ground. Tropius slams
into Chinchou with one of its vines, sending it crashing into the wall.
Chinchou uses Sueprsonic, but Tropius dodges the directional attack
effortlessly with its improved speed, and hits Chinchou with Razor
Leaf. Chinchou manages to get off a quick Thunderbolt on itself just
before it faints, but it's not nearly as potent as before.
Chinchou - 2/32 Tropius - 16/37 |
Flail!!
But only if you let me. ~~~ This is way more one sided now, now that Tropius got that stinking berry. Well, I guss we've got our own way! Take two rare candies! That'll give you a new move, Flail! It's super-powerful when you're low on HP. Like now! Go crazy with it! But alternate it with Thunderbolt. One hit from Flail prolly won't do Tropius in, but a couple will. However, I wouldn't want you to faint in between attacks! So, sacrifice some of Flail's power to keep you swingin! But that crazy guy is so fast that it's still a leap of faith! Good luck! |
Listen! (hit C^)
Tropius
runs angrily towards Chinchou and is about to finish it off when
Chinchou snaps up and rams into Tropius's jaw for massive damage.
Tropius stumbles backwards and drops to its knees. Tropius and Chinchou
then release twin Razor Leaf and Thunderbolt attacks, each hitting the
other for a lot of damage. They each fall to the ground at the same
time.
Faulkner: Well this is certainly interesting! I've never had a battle end in a draw before! Now then, the question in, should I give you the badge or not? I think...I'm going to leave it up to a test of skill. I assume you have at least one flying type, if not in your party then at least in your PC. Come meet me out back. Until you decide who to use, I'll be waiting. Faulkner then turns and walks out a door in the back of the gym before you have time to respond. |
Faulkner leaves, and I dash to the Pokecenter, to do some quick poke-swapping, after a heal.
Then, I return to the gym, locate Faulkner, and tell him I'm ready. "Well, I wasn't sure what type of test you were going to have me doing, so I brought all of my flying types. Six!" With that, I toss out all six pokeballs. A lineup of Gligar, Natu, Zubat, a slip of paper, Butterfree, and Ledyba appear. Looking more closely, I get confused with the lack of Delibird, and do a double take on the slip of paper. "Huh!? Oh, it says 'at the day care.' Oops." I turn to Faulkner, and prepare to hear what he'll have me do. "So what'll it be?" |
Listen! (hit C^)
Faulkner:
It's quite simple really. See how there's two paths that lead into the
woods? They're identical obstacle courses that you need flying pokemon
to get through. *looks over your pokemon* You should be fine. There're
five stations, and you can only use each of your pokemon once. There
are officials set up at each station to tell you how each one works and
to make sure you follow the rules.
|
"K, thanks, dude. I'm off! C'mon, ladies and gents, let's get it on!"
And with that, me and my five flying types dash off into the woods. All of a sudden, the little slip of paper dissappears in a puff of smoke, leaving nothing but a Delibird in its place. ~~A Delibird? He looks back and forth, glances at Faulkner, then tosses his fins behind him and waddles in my direction as fast as he can. Not very fast, so he calls out, and catches my attention. I turn and wait for him to catch up, then we head out to the first challenge. Along the way, I wonder to myself, "If the paths are identical, what's the point of having two?" |
Listen! (hit C^)
You
sprint forward, and soon come upon a man just standing on the edge of
what appears to be a small clearing. A crude looking wooden sign
hanging from the branch of a tree reads, "Speed" A man in an official
looking suit looks up from his clipboard and explains....
"This is the speed challenge. Choose your fastest flyer, and, when you're ready, hit the button to activate the target. Very simple really." Current Time: :47 |
Go, Ledyba!
Get it! |
Listen! (hit C^)
Ledyba
pops up and smacks the button. A helium filled balloon is released from
one of the trees, and Ledyba zooms up after it. You watch anxiously as
they grow smaller and smaller in the sky, but suddenly you notice that
Ledyba is flying back down. You recall it and glance at the official
who nods. You immediately start running again and soon come to a large
chasm. The official speaks.
"As you can clearly see, there is approximately a fifty foot gap here. You need to cross it. You can use any supplies you find in the woods, but you may only use one pokemon to help you. Begin!" Current Time: 2:42 |
Gligar!
Ready, go! Help me find a nice tall tree, and I'll climb up. Then I'll
jump, you catch me, and we'll soar right over this chasm! I'm trusting
you!
|
Listen! (hit C^)
Hang
glide go! Despite struggling a bit, Gligar manages to get you across
the gap properly. You dash forward because why the hell not. You come
upon a large cabin. Curious, you enter, and see a crap load of activity
up in the rafters. Upon closer inspection, it's actually a bunch of
small birds with shinies on their legs.
"This room is a simple hide and seek challenge. Each bird has a key tied to their leg. Every key but one is silver. Find the gold key, unlock the door leading to the path, and keep going." Current Time: 4:12 |
Alright, Zubat. This may be painful for me...
Use Supersonic. Shift the frequency until I tell you to stop. Twice, the metal in the keys will vibrate, making noise. Once it will be silver, the other time will be gold. The one that is silver will be ridiculously loud for me. The other sound I hear will be quiet, so I'll let you know when I hear it. Then we'll have to locate the source of the sound. |
Listen! (hit C^)
Stuff
happens. Eventually, the stuff you want to happen, does happen. Problem
is, it took a fairly long time and wasn't as fast as you may have
hoped. Either way, you take off quick as a a Scyther and reach the next
task. You glance up a see a sign hanging off of a tree branch that says
"Power". Directly in front of you are three large poles approximately
12 metres high.
Official: There is one large sphere resting on top of each of these three poles. As you can see, you can not actually see them from where you are. One is made of wood, one is made of rock, and one is made of metal. Your task is to pick one of the poles and send up one of your pokemon to knock it down. Once you pick a pole, you are bound to knock down the sphere on top of that pole. In addition, the poles tops are convexly shaped, so the lighter ones will be much easier to knock down. Pick a pokemon and a pole. Current Time: 10:12 |
Delibird, give the wooden sphere a nasty hit with Aurora Beam. That oughta do it.
|
Listen! (hit C^)
Delibird
takes aim at one of the poles and blasts it with Aurora Beam, but the
move simply doesn't have the physical strength to move any of the
boulders. Oh noes! What to do!
|
K, Delibird, use present on the bottom of all the poles repeatedly. If one doesn't explode, just do it again.
|
Listen! (hit C^)
Delibird full on demolishes one of the poles after just one Present. You run.... The last station is now!
Official: Welcome to the accuracy station. Pick a pokemon with a distance attack and prepare to square off against my Wingull. You see those targets about 30 metres over there? If you can hit a bulls-eye before me, you may advance. Current Time: 12:04 |
Go, Natu!
Saved the best for last! Here's a quick tactic: Teleport to the target and go with an all out Steel Wing/Peck. |
Listen! (hit C^)
Natu demolishes the target in moments, and the official looks a bit puzzled.
Official: Well...this is odd. I've never seen something like this before. I suppose since your pokémon didn't trip any of the bio-sensors, you get to advance. Excellent tactic, by the way. You run and you run 'till you can't tun no more, and get to the end moments before Faulkner. Faulkner: Unbelievable. You've beaten me at my own game. I guess I've got no choice but to award you these. Zephyr Badge + TM Aerial Ace + $500 obtained Faulkner: You're off to bigger and better things than this. The skies the limit for you. To be honest, I can only think of one other trainer who showed as much promise as you. His name was Gecko, and I suspect the two of you will both go far. |
Thanks Dude! I'll head back to town!
|
Listen! (hit C^)
Kaykay. Back to dex time now! (enjoy ur *)
